Etymology[edit]

From compound of koyun (bosom, chest) +‎ -u (possessive suffix) +‎ -(n)a (dative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant) +‎ almak (to take, to receive), literally to take into one's bosom. Cognate with Kazakh қойнына алу (qoinyna alu).
