From Old Norse lengi, originally an accusative of the noun Old Danish længe (length), from Proto-Germanic *langį̄, cognate with German Länge and Gothic 𐌻𐌰𐌲𐌲𐌴𐌹 (laggei). Derived from the adjective *langaz (long).
