Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *lemesja, from Proto-Indo-European *lemesi-o-, a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *lem- (to break). Cognate to Lithuanian lemesis (sharp edge of the plough), Proto-Slavic *lemešь (ploughshare).[1] Orel claims the transition of '*broken lump of earth' > 'globe of earth' to be 'one of the oldest'. Related to lëmë.
