English[edit]

Noun[edit]

lindorm (plural lindorms)

  1. Alternative form of lindworm

Swedish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Swedish lindormber, from Middle Low German lindworm, from Proto-Germanic *linþawurmiz. Cognate of Old Norse linnormr. By surface analysis, a compound of orm (serpent) and a word of disputed origin, arguably meaning "soft" or "pliable". Compare Old Norse linnr (snake, serpent) and Swedish linda (to wind), lindare (tench), lindra (to ease). See also Latin lentus and Swedish len (soft).
