Inherited from Middle Welsh llygat, from Old Welsh licat, from Proto-Brythonic *llugad, from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (to see). Cognate with Cornish lagas (eye), Breton lagad (eye), Sanskrit लोचन (locana, eye)
