Etymology[edit]
m (imperative of jmj (“to not do”)) + dyt (probably the infinitive of rḏj (“to give”)). The second element takes a written form that differs considerably from the ordinary forms of the infinitive of rḏj but despite this is probably best considered the infinitive.
