Etymology[edit]

From the mantra usually inscribed on them, from Tibetan ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ (oṃ ma ṇi pdme hūm̐), from Sanskrit ॐ मणिपद्मे हूं (oṃ maṇipadme hūṃ).
