From Sundanese marcapada (ᮙᮁᮎᮕᮓ, “earth”, literally “mortal world”) or Javanese ꦩꦂꦕꦥꦢ (marcapada, “earth”), from Old Javanese mĕrcapada, martyapada (“earth”, literally “mortal world”), from Sanskrit मर्त्य (martya, “mortal”) + पद (pada, “place”).
