Interjection[edit]

mazal bueno (Latin spelling, Hebrew spelling מזל בואינו)

  1. good luck
  2. good day (greeting)
  3. congratulations

Usage notes[edit]

This expression is the Spanish Hebrew translation equivalent to the Yiddish expression “mazel tov,” but the Yiddish expression is limited to luck that has already occurred and expresses “congratulations” for the past lucky occasion, whereas “mazal bueno” expresses “good luck” in general, for past, present, or future occasions.
