From Proto-Vietic *-mɛːŋʔ. Cognate with Muong miểng, Tho [Cuối Chăm] mɛːŋ³, and Chut [Rục] mɛːŋ³. Related to mánh, from the undiphthongized variant, and miệng (mouth).
