From Proto-Algonquian *miᐧčiwa (to eat (something)). Cognate with Cree ᒦᒋᓯᐤ (miicisiw, he/she eats), Malecite-Passamaquoddy mitsu (he/she eats), Menominee mēcehsow (he/she eats), Fox mîchiwa (he/she eats), Mahican meetthow (he/she eats), Unami mitsu (he/she eats), Munsee míitsuw (he/she eats).
