Particularly: “Ratliff claims native Hmongic origin, though doesn't give a reconstruction.[1] Probably onomatopoeic, with similar words across East and Southeast Asia, including Vietnamese mèo (cat), Thai แมว (mɛɛo, id), Lao ແມວ (mǣu, id), Chinese (māo, “id”).”
