Apocope of dialectal mjegullë, from Proto-Albanian *meg(u)lā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃migʰ-leh₂ (mist) (compare Lithuanian miglà, Polish mgła, Greek ομίχλη (omíchli)).[1]
