Hungarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Literally, not to make oneself be bothered / disturbed / embarrassed, the negative reflexive form of zavartat, the causative of the verb zavar (to disturb, bother).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [ˈnɛmzɒvɒrtɒcːɒ ˌmɒɡaːt]

Phrase[edit]

nem zavartatja magát

  1. (idiomatic, chiefly in the negative or in questions) to feel free

Usage notes[edit]

  • Since it is used chiefly in the negative, its positive form means “not to feel free”, i.e., “to bother”:
Miért zavartatnád magad? Why would you bother?

Conjugation[edit]

  • The word nem is replaced with ne in the subjunctive/imperative (and often in the conditional).
  • For the verb, see zavartat.
  • See magát for the personal endings.
