Etymology[edit]

From French octaples, from Ancient Greek ὀκταπλά (oktaplá), neuter plural of ὀκταπλοῦς (oktaploûs, eightfold), from ὀκτα- (okta-, octa-: eight) + -πλοος (-ploos, -fold), used as the title of such an edition by Origen.
