Etymology[edit]
Via some other European language, ultimately from Latin ontologia, from Ancient Greek ὤν (ṓn, “on”), present participle of εἰμί (eimí, “being, existing, essence”), and λόγος (lógos, “study of”), with the suffix -ia (Latvian -ija).
