order mark (plural order marks)

  1. (UK, education, historical) A formal black mark given to a pupil for bad behaviour.
    • 1951, C. S. Lewis, Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia:
      "If you don't attend, Gwendolen," said the mistress, "and stop looking out of the window, I shall have to give you an order-mark."
    • 1958, Abdul Hakim, Better Schools, page 47:
      If a child loses five or more points for his House he automatically gets an order mark.
