Swedish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

ord (word) +‎ knapp (scarce)

Adjective[edit]

ordknapp (comparative mer ordknapp, superlative mest ordknapp)

  1. taciturn, silent, shy; frugal in words, not using more words than necessary
  2. expressive, eloquent; expressing much meaning with few words
Ju ordknappare en dikt är, desto mer innehåll väntar man
The more expressive a poem is, the more content you would expect

Usage notes[edit]

  • As the excerpt shows, the comparative ordknappare can appear, but is rare. The superlative ordknappast would hardly be used.
