From pa- +‎ ngimbulo, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *buʀəhuʔ (jealous). Alternatively, other theoretical roots are gimbulo and bulo. Compare Cebuano abubho, Waray-Waray abugho, and Malay cemburu. Doublet of panibugho.
