patwar (plural patwars)

  1. (India, usually in the phrase "patwar circle") A revenue block in India, a subdivision of a district, usually smaller than a tehsil and consisting of several villages.
    • 1958, All India Co-operative Review:
      Out of the total number of 15,155 villages and 474 patwars in the State, 14,545 villages and 438 patwars were covered by the Co-operative Movement up to the end of the year under report.
