Etymology[edit]
Compound pette-gislo. The second part is from Proto-Balto-Slavic *gīˀ(s)lāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷiHl-. Cognate with Lithuanian gýsla (“vein”), Latvian dzīsla (“vein”) and Proto-Slavic *žila (“vein, tendon”).
