Sino-Vietnamese word from 繁殖 (“to reproduce; to breed”).
The sense of “buxom” is a misinterpretation of the Sino-Vietnamese etymology above, prompted by association with phôm phốp (“buxom”), phồng (“to swell”), etc. + thực (“truly”).
