Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From paars. The origin of the first element is not entirely certain.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈpɪm.pəlˌpaːrs/
  • (file)
  • Hyphenation: pim‧pel‧paars

Adjective[edit]

pimpelpaars (not comparable)

  1. bluish purple

Usage notes[edit]

The phrase pimpelpaars met een X randje is often used facetiously as an improbable colour or to indicate that one doesn't care about the colour. In contemporary Dutch the most common variant is pimpelpaars met een goud randje, but variants with groen, rood, geel and blauw also exist.
