  1. (horticulture) After the development of buds and leaves on an apple tree, but before the pink coloration appears.
    • 1885, Pamphlets on Parasitology, volume 128, page 255:
      The apple trees were to receive no dormant lime sulphur, but an application of Scalecide 1 to 15 at the delayed dormant, followed by a prepink lime sulphur 1 to 30 and the pink lime sulphur 1 to 10.
    • 1948, Donald Folsom, Comparative Effects of Certain Sulphur Fungicides on McIntosh Apple Trees, page 19:
