Etymology[edit]

From ptycho- (compare ptychography) + (-)nome, from Ancient Greek πτυχή (ptukhḗ, fold) + νομός (nomós, division).

ptychonome (plural ptychonomes)

  1. (entomology) An enclosure formed (of leaves) by some organisms of the order Lepidoptera; a tentiform mine.
