Vietnamese[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Sino-Vietnamese word from 國 (“country”) and 長 (“head, chief”).
Pronunciation[edit]
- (Hà Nội) IPA(key): [kuək̚˧˦ t͡ɕɨəŋ˧˩]
- (Huế) IPA(key): [kuək̚˦˧˥ ʈɨəŋ˧˨]
- (Hồ Chí Minh City) IPA(key): [wək̚˦˥ ʈɨəŋ˨˩˦]
Noun[edit]
Usage notes[edit]
- Not applied to any current head of state.
- This title seems to only be consistently applied to two historical figures: Adolf Hitler of Nazi Germany (where it is equivalent to the title Führer) and Bảo Đại of the State of Vietnam (where it is equivalent to chief of state).
