Etymology[edit]
Uncertain. Possibly a back-formation from racuszek, a dialectal variant of *raczuszek, itself a diminutive of rak (“crayfish”). Derivation from East Slavic cannot be ruled out. Compare regional Belarusian рачыха (račyxa) and dialectal Ukrainian гречух (hrečux).
