Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old French recete (also reçoite, receite, recepte), from Latin recepta, derived from recipere (to receive). The Old French form is phonetically regular (cf. dete < Vulgar Latin *depta), but was probably not inherited, but borrowed from Latin.
