refreshment car (plural refreshment cars)

  1. (rail transport) A vehicle included in a train, in which refreshments (food and drink) are provided to passengers.
    • 1959 March, “Talking of Trains: Fewer meals on wheels?”, in Trains Illustrated, page 121:
      Five trains only in each direction between Euston and Wolverhampton now incorporate refreshment cars in their formations, as compared with no fewer than thirteen over the shorter distance between Liverpool Street and Norwich.
