Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Brythonic *rrọn (horsehair),[1] from Proto-Celtic *(ɸ)rānos (mane).[2] Compare Irish rón (long hair as from an animal's tail), Middle Irish róinne, rúainne (a single hair).
