From Proto-Albanian *rauba, from Proto-Indo-European *Hrowb-, *Hrewb-, variant of *Hrewp- (to break). Related to Gothic 𐍂𐌰𐌿𐍀𐌾𐌰𐌽 (raupjan, to reap) and Old High German roufen (id).
