Etymology[edit]
Likely a borrowing from an Indo-European satem-language. Cognate with Compare Hebrew סוּס (sūs), Aramaic סוּסְיָא (sūsəyā), Phoenician 𐤎𐤎 (ss /sys/), Classical Syriac ܣܘܣܝܐ (sūsyā) and Ugaritic 𐎒𐎒𐎆 (ssw). Compare also Arabic سِيسِيّ (sīsiyy, “pony”).
