Borrowed from Spanish zanahoria, from Andalusian Arabic سَفُنَّارِيَة (safunnárya), from Arabic إِسْفَنَارِيَّة (ʔisfanāriyya) (compare Libyan Arabic: سفنّاريّة (sfənnāriyya)), from Ancient Greek σταφυλίνη (staphulínē) ἀγρία (agría).
