Turkish[edit]
Alternative forms[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish صحیفه (sahife), itself borrowed from Arabic صَحِيفَة (ṣaḥīfa) (root ص ح ف) or possibly from صَفْحَة (ṣafḥa) (root ص ف ح) through metathesis (hence possibly a doublet of safha; see synonyms below). Both Arabic words – صَحِيفَة (ṣaḥīfa) and صَفْحَة (ṣafḥa) – have the meaning “page”, although the latter is used more frequently with that sense in Modern Standard Arabic.
