Etymology[edit]

From New Latin scatophagus, from Ancient Greek σκατοφάγος (skatophágos), from σκατο- (skato-, shit) and φάγος (phágos, eating), from φᾰγεῖν (phageîn, to eat) + -ος (-os, -ous, forming adjectives). Equivalent to scato- +‎ -phagous.
