Etymology[edit]

Neologism from septynì (seven), as an analogy to devynì (nine) : deviñtas (ninth). Displaced Old Lithuanian sẽkmas, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *septmas, from Proto-Indo-European *septmós, compare Proto-Slavic *sedmъ.
