Inherited from Proto-Slavic *stьklo, from Gothic 𐍃𐍄𐌹𐌺𐌻𐍃 (stikls, goblet), from Proto-Germanic *stiklaz, from *stikiz (stitch, sticking), a derivative from *stikaną (to stick), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)teyg- (to sting).
