Etymology 1[edit]
From Old Norse skera (“to cut”), from Proto-Germanic *skeraną (“to shear”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ker- (“to cut”). Cognate with Faroese and Icelandic skera, Swedish skära, Danish skære, Old English scieran, English shear, and Dutch and German scheren.
