Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *tˢjānaktāi, from Pre-Albanian (post-Proto-Indo-European *ḱyeh₂ nékʷtey, dative-locative compound, literally ‘this night’. Cognate to Lithuanian šiąnakt and Latvian šonakt (today).
