Finnish[edit]
Noun[edit]
Usage notes[edit]
Ungulates used to be called kavioeläimet in zoology, and the perissodactyls were called varsinaiset kavioeläimet (“true ungulates”). This caused confusion as in common Finnish the word kavio refers strictly to a single-toed hoof and the word sorkka to an even-toed hoof. In regulation sorkka- ja kavioeläin is used as equivalent to "ungulate".
