Cognate with Squamish sp’áḵw’us (“bald eagle”), Lillooet spəlkʷáqs (“bald eagle”), Shuswap spl'qʷeqs (“bald eagle”). From root p'eq' (“white”), ós (“on the face”). Formed by metathesis.
