spirit house (plural spirit houses)

  1. (Southeast Asia) A small house- or temple-like structure mounted on a pillar at which offerings are made to a local deity or protective spirit.

      About two metres high, the Spirit House is a small model temple that most Thais have in the garden.
  2. (historical) A place where hard liquor is stored or sold.
