Etymology[edit]
From a Vulgar Latin root *tabōnem, from Latin tabānus. Alternatively, from the classical Latin form through alteration of an older Romanian intermediate form *tăîn; compare similar development in înăuntru.[1] Cognate with Aromanian tãun, French taon.
