Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 子爵, composed of (child; boy; man; philosopher; viscount) and (nobility rank), literally "the rank of a viscount; viscounty". Mainly refers to the European rank. The Chinese rank did not include the suffix (tước), thus simply (tử). See also công hầu bá tử nam.
