Etymology[edit]

From the tiz- stem of tíz (ten) +‎ -ed (fraction-forming suffix).

Pronunciation[edit]

Numeral[edit]

tized

  1. a tenth (one of ten equal parts of a whole)

Usage notes[edit]

Sometimes this word is misspelled as *tízed, though the latter can only express “your ten [items]”. Their pronunciation with a short i is reflected in the spelling of certain derivations (ordinal numbers, fractions, and prefixes of tens) but not in inflections or in -es and -en forms. Compare tizedik and huszadik, tizen- and huszon-, as well as huszad (a twentieth) and húszad (your twenty [items]) but tízes and húszas, tízen and húszan, all pronounced with a short vowel in the first syllable.[1]
