  1. Any of a number of breeds of domestic fancy pigeon, Columba livia domestica, descendants of the wild rock pigeon, Columba livia, of the family Columbidae (pigeons and doves) (originally bred for their peculiar gurgling voice, a prolonged coo called "trumpeting" or "drumming").
