From Proto-Finnic *tuho, probably from Proto-Finno-Permic *tukšɜ-. Cognates include Ingrian tuho, Votic tuho, Veps tuho, Veps tuhoze (“astray”, adverb) and possibly Udmurt [script needed] (tiš, “bloody battle”).
