Etymology[edit]

From Byzantine Greek ψωμίν (psōmín), from ψωμίον (psōmíon), from Ancient Greek ψωμός (psōmós), from the verb ψώω (psṓō), an alternative form of ψάω (psáō, to touch lightly, to rub). Cognate with Greek ψωμί (psomí).
