From Middle Dutch vacht, from Old Dutch *faht, from Proto-Germanic *fahtiz, from Proto-Indo-European *póḱtis, from the root *peḱ-. Related to Old Dutch fas (“head hair”) and Middle Dutch vas (“head hair”). Cognate with Old English feht.
