Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Old Polish wyżeł, from Proto-Slavic *vyžьlъ. By surface analysis, wyga + -eł. Alternatively borrowed from Hungarian vizsla, itself probably a borrowing from Slavic. Cognate to Czech vyžle, Russian выжла (vyžla) and Serbo-Croatian вижао.
